HOW FAST WILL A 2.8L TURBO VW VR6 DRAGSTER RUN THE 1/4 MILE, well that is what Luke Stevenson, chairman of the VWDRC Drag Racing Club felt he needed to find out. The VR6 engine has been transplanted into many cars, including Golfs, Jetta’s, Polo’s, TT’s etc etc, and in many sizes from 2.8 up to 3.2L. So Luke thought, lets put it in a dragster.

Although it is still in a very low state of tune, with standard rods, pistons, cams etc, it has had a Master Power GT45 Turbo bolted on, running meth via 12 injectors, and controlled by a Fueltech FT600 ECU, with the power being put down via a 2-speed powerglide transmission, and all expertly mapped by Gordon Darby at Street Racers. It has never been dyno’d, but would expect the power to be between 500 and 600bhp.

At the VWDRC Drag Days event, Luke won the heads up racing, and also managed a new PB of 8.76 @ 152mph. How much quicker will this get……….stay tuned.
