Where it all began for the BMW M Division, the 3.0 CSL was born as a homologation special for the European Touring Car Championship. The project was an enormous success, with CSLs taking six out of seven titles between 1973 and 1979, and was a sign of things to come for the fledgling Bavarian motorsport dynasty.
