Football player flies with car through the wall of a sports hall

Sofian Kiyine, professional football player at Oud-Heverlee Leuven in Belgium, ended up in a sports hall with his car in a spectacular accident in Flémalle in Liège on Thursday. The car of the 25-year-old Belgian-Moroccan midfielder literally took off from a roundabout, flew meters through the air, and then pierced the facade of a sports hall. The accident was filmed, which resulted in shocking images.

The accident happened on Thursday on the banks of the Meuse, near Flémalle. The French newspaper La Dernière Heure writes that, according to eyewitnesses, the vehicle – a black Mercedes – drove well above the maximum allowed speed of 90 kilometers per hour, some even speak of 200 kilometers per hour.

After hitting a roundabout, the car was catapulted into the air, and the vehicle ended up in the sports hall Louis Melin, in the middle of the hall. “At the time of the accident, there were children in the building, but they had just gone to the changing rooms,” says local councilor for Sport Fabian Pavone. “Fortunately, no other vehicles or persons were involved in the accident,” says a statement from OH Leuven, which confirms the accident on its website.

Kiyine is not in danger of life, but has suffered several fractures. He was taken by ambulance to the emergency room of a nearby hospital, Pavone confirmed. “The club is waiting for more clarity about the exact circumstances of how the accident came about before responding further. We wish Sofian a speedy recovery in advance”, says OHL.
