Tesla Struck by Stone Ignited on Highway Crashes by turboandstance - September 3, 2024September 3, 2024 A Tesla sedan caught fire on Fanling Highway on Sunday night after being struck by a rock. Around 10 pm yesterday (Sep 1), a sedan was traveling towards Tai Po, and when it got near Kau Lung Hang, the car suddenly began to emit smoke and flames. The driver quickly maneuvered the vehicle to the Fanling Highway Interchange Station and stopped, allowing all four occupants to escape unharmed.Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they sprayed water on the Tesla to cool it down. The occupants of the car, including the male driver, two female passengers and a 2-year-old child, were all safe following the incident. The driver, surnamed Cheung, reported that he was driving from Yuen Long to Ping Che along the Fanling Highway. As he approached the center line opposite the Kau Lung Hang petrol station, a stone unexpectedly appeared on the road. Unable to avoid it, the stone struck the underside of the car as he drove over it. Following the impact, the Tesla’s warning lights activated, prompting Cheung to pull over. The vehicle’s power and air conditioning systems failed immediately, and an unusual smell emanated from the sedan. Cheung and the three passengers quickly exited the vehicle at the interchange station.
